What Failing Chimney Masonry Looks Like

If the brick is sound but the mortar joints are failing, we grind out the deteriorated mortar and repoint with fresh mortar matched to the original in color and strength.
Right call when: damage is limited to the joints and the structure is still straight and stable.
Crown Repair & Crown Rebuild
Hairline crown cracks can be sealed and resurfaced. A crown that's broken into sections, or was built too thin to begin with, gets formed and poured new so it sheds water for decades.
Right call when: the crown is the problem and the courses below it are still healthy.
Partial or Full Chimney Rebuild
When spalling and freeze-thaw damage run deep, or the chimney is leaning, patching is money wasted. We take the stack down to sound brick and rebuild it to match your home.

Is spalling brick serious?
Yes. Spalling means water is already inside the brick and freeze-thaw cycles are breaking it apart. It never heals on its own, and each winter widens the damage. Caught early it's usually a contained repair; left alone it can turn into a partial rebuild.
How long does tuckpointing last?
Done right, with mortar matched to the original, tuckpointing commonly lasts 25 years or more. That's why we repoint with the correct mortar type instead of smearing surface mortar over bad joints, which fails in a few seasons.
Will the new brick match my house?
We source brick to match your home's size, color, and texture as closely as possible, and we blend mortar color to the existing joints. On older Tulsa homes an exact factory match isn't always made anymore, and we'll show you the closest options before any work starts.
Do I need a full chimney rebuild?
Most of the time, no. Rebuilds are for chimneys that are leaning, structurally cracked, or spalled too deep to save. Everything short of that is usually tuckpointing, crown work, or a partial rebuild of the top courses. We'll give you an honest answer with photos to back it up.
Can masonry damage go through insurance?
If the damage came from a storm or lightning rather than age, it may be claimable. We document everything with photos either way, and if it looks storm-related we'll tell you and provide the documentation your adjuster needs.
